Frequently asked questions

Where does the data come from?

All data is sourced from public government records: House Clerk financial disclosures, Senate EFD filings, FEC campaign finance data, and Senate lobbying disclosures. CapitolExposed does not use any non-public data.

How often is data updated?

New STOCK Act filings are ingested as they are published; the latest filing was ingested 14m ago. Campaign finance and lobbying data updates follow FEC and Senate filing schedules. Federal contract leads are rebuilt once a day, after new disclosures and USAspending contract records are loaded, and each one passes automated checks against those records before it is published. The current ingest state is always published at /data-status.

Can I cancel my subscription anytime?

Yes. All paid plans can be canceled anytime from your account settings. Monthly and annual plans both retain access through the end of the current billing period. Annual plans save approximately 17% compared to monthly billing.

Do you offer discounts for journalists or nonprofits?

Yes. Verified journalists, academic researchers, and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations can receive Pro access at no cost. Contact us with your credentials.

What does the API include?

The REST API provides programmatic access to member profiles, stock trades, federal contract leads, lobbying filings, campaign donations, and network graph data. Full documentation is available at /api-docs.

Is this legal? How does the STOCK Act work?

The STOCK Act (2012) requires members of Congress to disclose securities transactions within 45 days. These disclosures are public record. CapitolExposed collects this data, links each record to a member only through an identifier the records share, and does not allege any wrongdoing.
